Ninja is a sweet little 7 year old, black pug girl that is both beautiful on the outside and the inside (18lbs of joy!). Her foster mom who has fostered literally 100s of pugs for us, said her personality is unbelievable and she would keep her herself in heartbeat if she didnt have too many already. Let us just tell you her foster mom has been doing this a long time and she never says that so rest assured, Ninja is a jewel. Ninja is the happiest of souls. She doesnt realize she has issues and certainly doesnt let them slow her down. She is the first one to greet you when you come home or wake up in the morning. She is the first one out in the yard and back in again when its time. She loves to play with her toys and run in the yard. Since she should never sleep in her humans bed, because she might jump and do further damage to her spine, she gets tucked in her dog bed on the floor every night with a belly rub and an ear scratch and is happy for the night. She is crate trained as well but might sing the song of her people for a bit before she settles down. She likes to be where the action is! She is not a barker but sings when excited. She is fully potty trained for number 1 but number 2 still is an issue when she is excited. We affectionately call them Ninja nuggets. But this is improving with the surgery and she is beginning to use the yard like the rest of the pack if you are diligent about not getting her too excited on the way out. The Doctor is cautiously optimistic in his words. Ninja came into rescue because of her owners financial problems. Unfortunately, the owner had been told early on that she had some kind of back issues but they didnt have the means to do anything about it, so they didnt. We of course, immediately had her evaluated and did an MRI. She severe disc compression and spinal instability in two locations on her spine. She also had serious spinal cord atrophy from the years of not treating the instability. Because of the spinal atrophy her chances of a full recovery were slim to none but we elected to proceed with the spinal surgery in hopes of stabilizing her back, so things would not get worse for her and hoped for some improvement. Even though it was extremely expensive, we just could not let this personality plus, perky, loving little pug deteriorate further without trying to help her. Ninja had the surgery last month and all things considered has been doing great. The hope is that the damage to her spine has stopped. Ninja is looking for a pug rescue home where she can love and be loved for the rest of her life. Please open your heart and home to this darling pug girl and she will bring you pug love and happiness for all of her days. It saddens us to see so many little pugs with untreated spinal issues. Ninja is the 4th pug that we have done a $2 - $3,000 spinal surgery for since January, and we have two more waiting to be evaluated?. Needless to say, the pugs need your prayers and Pug Rescue of Florida needs your donations. Ninja is rehabbing in Jacksonville but moving to Orlando soon. Her adoption fee is only $150 which helps Rescue with some of Ninjas medical bills.
